Do They Know Something We Don’t Know?

From the Green Bay Press-Gazette: If Brett Favre signs to play quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings in the next week or two, his family and friends will be ready for his one game back in Green Bay.brett-favre-jersey-1 About two months ago, a member of Favre’s inner circle blocked off 25 to 30 rooms at the Midway Motor Lodge near Lambeau Field for the weekend of the Vikings game against the Packers on Nov. 1.

Favre Finds Trainer, Childress Open To Favre Comeback…

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 4, 2009 by sportsguru09

“Favre to Harvin for a 75-yard TD Pass!”….”Favre hands it off to Peterson for a huge gain”….”Favre wins the NFC North in ’09 with Minnesota?!?!?”…Folks, don’t be surprised if you hear this during the 2009 NFL season. As much as he vows that there’s nothing that could entice him, Brett Favre has hired a personal trainer and has sparked the interest of yes, that’s right, the Minnesota Vikings. brettfavreBetter yet, Brad Childress, Minnesota’s coach who knows that they have no talent behind center to protect A-Pete, said over the weekend that the prospect of Favre quarterbacking the ‘Vikes next year will certainly be discussed in detail among his organization and coaching staff. Yikes, could you imagine yet another comeback? Even Favre fans would be sick and tired of Brett coming back just to get cold-clocked by the defenses in the NFC for another year, jeopardizing his health and maybe his life in the long term (he is like 55 now right?!?). The sad thing is that the sports world wouldn’t be surprised if Favre did un-retire, and this time, if it were to Minnesota, no one would really care (outside of the NFC North of course).

For Favre, the only way this could go well would be if he actually did come back and actually win a Super Bowl. Otherwise, it would all be for not and he would simply just make a fool of himself. At this point, no one would believe too much of what he says, or at least I wouldn’t. vikings_-_super_novaWhen he actually does retire after this alleged comeback, it’ll probably go unrecognized as nobody will think it’ll be for real or for good. The more Favre contemplates returning to the game, the more he loses his fan-base and the more annoyed NFL fans and the rest of the sports world get. Now, I know that many people hire personal trainers to help them get fit or lose weight, but Favre has been playing football over the last two decades so he can’t be too out of shape right? This further makes me believe that he wants to stay in “Game-Shape” just in case he gets that phone call from Minnesota. God help the Favre family and the media criticism that will flood their lives for the next year if Brett plays in the NFL once again. Haven’t they been through enough Brett?

On a side note, I got the ‘Vikes winning the NFC North if Favre does come back…

Skins Sign Favre, Edge Lands In Denver…

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 30, 2009 by sportsguru09

……Don’t worry, I’m just kidding sports fans. But wouldn’t these two headlines be absolutely hilarious and certainly fitting?! The Skins, in the midst of their own quarterback conundrum and Denver….oh Denver….who has inexplicably filled its entire roster with Running Backs leading into the 2009 season. Why not, what’s one more RB right? If anything, at this point the Ponies (Broncos) have enough running backs to backfill all of their other positions on the football field! Nice work Josh McDaniels, way to completely destroy your salary cap with bums in the backfield, minus Knowshon “Mr. Georgia” Moreno who has yet to step onto the gridiron.denver-broncos-head I can’t wait to watch the Broncos run their organization into the ground, literally. You might as well stand all their Running Backs up in a shooting line, it’s going to be that type of year at Mile High.

As for the Washington Snyders (yes, Dan Snyder, their pompous owner), they’ve been so worried about trying to replace Jason Campbell during the offseason and in the 2009 NFL Draft that all they’ve actually done is piss him off. Though this might give him so motivation in the short term, it doesn’t exactly build internal relations or chemistry. Don’t be surprised if halfway through the year Snyder ends up on Favre’s doorstep begging him to once again break out of retirement…anything can happen right? In Dan Snyder’s world it can….which is normally a bad thing for the Washington Redskins.

Be Afraid ‘Skins Fans, Be Very Afraid…

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 25, 2009 by sportsguru09

‘Skins fans, listen up. Today is draft day. Normally this means bad news for you guys. Why? Because your owner, Mr. Daniel Snyder, is a moron and a sellout. Is he smart? No. Does he know what he’s doing? No. WIll he give up the entire franchise for one player? Yes. spo_ft_washingtonredskins_1006Don’t be surprised if all this comes full force through today’s first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Sitting in front of you is vulnerability in the name of Mark Sanchez. After only one workout and meeting between Sanchez and the Washington Redskins, Snyder became absolutely smitten with the unproven Sanchez and has already expressed the idea of shopping all their draft picks and Jason Campbell to go get him. What will this take? Well, they’ll be on the phone with Seattle with the #4 pick or with Jacksonville at #8 if “Dirty Sanchez” lasts that long. This spells disaster for Washington…

I have two strong feelings on this matter and potential bomb that Snyder may drop on his own organization:

1 – YOU HAVE COLT BRENNAN. The Pineapple Express is a good player, has lit it up in the preseason, and is a better passer than Jason Campbell. Why not give him a shot? What do you have to lose? Why pay Top 10 money when you haven’t given your All-College backup a chance. For goodness sakes, the guy will put fans in the seats and might just be productive. I mean, he threw for like 10 Million yards at Hawaii. Give the kid a shot….

2 – Mark “I’m Lucky I Played At USC” Sanchez, to me, is unproven. He played for the Trojans and Pete Carrol for cryin’ out loud. You put anyone in that system, like Graham Harrell or Sam Bradford, and they too when a bunch of games. Yes Sanchez won 19 games there, but THAT’S WHAT HE’S SUPPOSED TO DO. 2009draft_msanchez
Every year, USC, on paper, has the best team and most skilled recruits in the country. When you drop back to pass, have more than 5 seconds to throw, and have stud WRs on either side of you running down the field, it’s not hard to be successful. Shoot, I have a good arm. I could win 19 games at USC. Even more, the Pac-10 is a weak conference. Who does USC play? Cal? UCLA? Oregon? Come on now, it’s no SEC or Big 12. Simply put, Sanchez is overrated and I hope the Skins, for my own entertainment, give up everything to get him, end up as a bust, and finally give Brennan a shot.

Good luck today Washington, you’ll need it…

Lions Negotiating With Stafford…

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 23, 2009 by sportsguru09

From Jon Clayton, “Negotiations between the Detroit Lions and Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford have intensified but as of Wednesday night there was no deal, multiple sources said.

The Lions want to have a deal in place for the draft’s first selection before Saturday, and they have narrowed their focus on Stafford, Baylor tackle Jason Smith and Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry. Curry’s agents met with the Lions in Detroit over the weekend and left with confidence they would be able to work out a deal with the Lions.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Lions focus turned to Stafford, who has indicated he would love to play in Detroit. matthew-stafford1According to sources, the Lions and Stafford’s agents Tom Condon and Ben Dogra were exchanging proposals Wednesday night with hopes of reaching an agreement.

Figuring out the right contract numbers remains critical. Last year, Condon and Dogra negotiated a five-year, $57.5 million deal for tackle Jake Long, who was drafted No. 1 by the Dolphins. They also got Matt Ryan a a six-year, $72 million deal when he was drafted No. 4 by the Falcons.

Because quarterbacks receive a premium salary because of the value of their position, Stafford would be expected to make more than Long, but it may be hard for the Lions to top the Ryan contract by much.”

Green Bay Packers And…Greg Paulus?!?!?…

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 14, 2009 by sportsguru09

I never ever thought I’d say this, but good luck Greg Paulus on your….NFL Career?!? Yep, that’s right Packer fans. Greg Paulus, an ex-Duke Blue Devil point guard and ex-high school football phenom, officially tried out and worked out for the Green Bay Packers this past week. At what position? Well, to most people’s surprise, it was for Quarterback. Paulus, against what you would think by looking at him, was actually an amazing and highly praised high school quarterback. Before committing to Duke University to play college basketball, Paulus was recruited by Notre Dame and The U (Miami) on full scholarship as well as being named Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year in the United States his senior year.

Though Paulus is 6-foot-1 and a whopping 180 pounds, he was a four-time all-state football player in high school, a starter in the U.S. Army All-American game, and set six state passing records during his tenure behind center. So, apparently he is legit, just tiny. To also note, his brother Mike is currently one of the Quarterbacks at the University of North Carolina. For the family’s sake, good thing Mike doesn’t ball it up, otherwise the Tar Heel-Blue Devil rivalry would probably rip that family apart.

Is Aaron Rodgers being threatened for the top spot at Lambeau? I don’t think so but wouldn’t that be absolutely hilarious?!? Everyone, even Duke fans, hate Greg Paulus. Could you imagine that backlash if he took the highly praised Rodgers’ spot during training camp? Wow, just thinking about it makes me crack up…let’s hope it happens…unless you’re a Packer fan.
