Skins Sign Favre, Edge Lands In Denver…

……Don’t worry, I’m just kidding sports fans. But wouldn’t these two headlines be absolutely hilarious and certainly fitting?! The Skins, in the midst of their own quarterback conundrum and Denver….oh Denver….who has inexplicably filled its entire roster with Running Backs leading into the 2009 season. Why not, what’s one more RB right? If anything, at this point the Ponies (Broncos) have enough running backs to backfill all of their other positions on the football field! Nice work Josh McDaniels, way to completely destroy your salary cap with bums in the backfield, minus Knowshon “Mr. Georgia” Moreno who has yet to step onto the gridiron.denver-broncos-head I can’t wait to watch the Broncos run their organization into the ground, literally. You might as well stand all their Running Backs up in a shooting line, it’s going to be that type of year at Mile High.

As for the Washington Snyders (yes, Dan Snyder, their pompous owner), they’ve been so worried about trying to replace Jason Campbell during the offseason and in the 2009 NFL Draft that all they’ve actually done is piss him off. Though this might give him so motivation in the short term, it doesn’t exactly build internal relations or chemistry. Don’t be surprised if halfway through the year Snyder ends up on Favre’s doorstep begging him to once again break out of retirement…anything can happen right? In Dan Snyder’s world it can….which is normally a bad thing for the Washington Redskins.

The Good, The Bad, and The Downright Ugly…

The 2009 NFL Draft was this past weekend and oh was it entertaining.2009-nfl-draft-props Typical teams struggled to make smart decisions, the usual teams were solid, and there were many trades and pick moves put into place to make the ’09 draft one of the most memorable in recent history.

Read below for a little analysis and my awards for best and worst draft choices…

THE VERY GOOD

1. The Philadelphia Eagles

Well Deshean Jackson, your Eagles got a stud WR gift-wrapped to play alongside you in Philly. The fact that Jeremy Maclin fell to Philly here was ridiculous and never should have happened (all Al Davis’ fault in Oakland). And Donovan McNabb, are you satisfied with your weapons now? O, and in case you didn’t notice, Westbrook’s new backup and future successor LeShean McCoy out of Pitt is completely legit. I saw him beat up on Navy in Annapolis this past fall all by himself. Not many people know him, but they will very soon when he takes over for an aging Westbrook. Great pickup Philly…

2. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts, how I hate you so. You efficiently filled your running back whole and got a speedy, athletic, and very talented Donald Brown out of UConn. This was a steal and excited what the Colts needed after giving up Dominic Rhodes in the offseason. indianapolis_coltsWe all know Addai can’t stay healthy and when he actually does play, he’s not that efficient behind Manning, Wayne, and company. They’re pass happy and will look a lot to Brown out of the backfield. Later in the draft, the Colts also boosted both sides of their line and added depth. A solid draft all the way around for the ‘Shoe.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

As a Jags fan, I was ecstatic to watch Jack Del Rio and company go to work in Jax’s war room. Not only did they get two big Offensive Linemen that will surely keep Mojo Drew alive longer, they added three sure-handed blazing fast wide receivers. Though most haven’t heard of them, don’t be suprised if Garrard throws the ball much more successfully next year without dealing with thugs who had no hands like he’s been used to over the past couple of seasons. Many questioned their pass on Michael Crabtree, but if this organization is going to be centered around MoJo, shouldn’t you do the best to protect him?

4. Arizona Cardinals

Well, Edge is out Mr. Meaty Beanie Wells is in. With a huge hole to fill in the backfield behind Kurt Warner, the Cards got their man of their future to bruise defenses and push the line in the redzone. Though many figured that ‘Zona would trade away Anquan Boldin on draft day, the Cardinals made a bigger offensive statement by providing solidity to their run game and NOT trading Boldin. The Bears and others offered, but none matched Arizona’s trade expectations. Overall, the draft was a success for Ken Wisenhunt’s bunch. Keep Boldin, pick up a few strong pass rushers, and add a bruiser for your franchise running back.

THE VERY BAD

1. Dallas Cowboys

Did these guys even participate in this year’s draft? Oh yea, they passed in Round 1 and added 12 special teamers on Day 2? Come on Jerry Jones, you know better.dallas_cowboys You might as well have traded those guys or picks for help in next year’s draft. Not one person is recognizable from your draft and you added no help to help your now T.O.-less receiver core (that features an overrated Roy Williams) in the early rounds. What a waste…good luck scoring points this year…

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

You got your man in Josh Freeman and then what? You completely disappeared from the draft.

THE DOWNRIGHT UGLY

1. The Oakland Raiders

The most shocking yet stupid pick in the 2009 NFL Draft officially belongs to your Al Davis. Heyward-Bay before Crabtree and Maclin? Are you kidding me?!? What the *&^%*^*?!?!?!?!? No wonder your organization’s been in the toilet for years now, YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS! nfl_oakland_raiders_1Jamarcus Russell now weighs like 350+ lbs. and was just given a speedy WR with no hands and no proven ability to be able to break away and play one-on-one. Looks like D-Mac Darren McFadden will see a lot of touches this year….otherwise, they have NO shot to win games. They’re lucky their division is downright awful. Welcome to the bottom of the Toilet Bowl Oakland…

2. The Denver Broncos

Another RB?!?!? Josh McDaniels, you’re killing me. First you get rid of a franchise quarterback for who? Oh yea, that bum from the windy city Kyle Orton (with draft picks). Next, with like 39 running backs already on your roster and 3 more picked up in the 2009 Free Agency period, you draft Knowshown Moreno? I mean, I know the Georgia boy can play but come on now, don’t you think you should work on improving quite possibly the worst defense in the NFL? Your secondary is terrible and aging and you guys rarely sack the quarterback. Even better, there were a few quality RBs you could have taken later in the draft. This pick definitely should have gone elsewhere. As we know it, McDaniels continues to dig his own grave deeper and deeper after every decision he makes…poor guy…he’ll be out in the streets in no time…

A Little Luck and Some Early Draft Shockers…

Derrius Hayward-Bey over Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin at Number 7? Knowshon Moreno in an already Running Back-heavy Broncos offense? Wow, both are huge Draft surprises. Oakland continues to stun us and Josh McDaniels is just digging himself a bigger whole in Denver? Did he not forget that his defense last year was one of the worst ever?!?!nfl_draft_0651211

In lighter news, the Redskins saved face with Sanchez going to NY (via trade) with the #5 pick (from Cleveland Browns) and were able to steal Brian Orakpo, out of Texas, to help their pass rush next year alongside Albert Haynesworth. For my guys, the Jacksonville Jaguars, they addressed one of their two biggest needs, Offensive Line. The Jags took Eugene Monroe, OT out of the University of Virginia. MoJo Drew will be pumped he finally has some blocking.

More updates to come…

Washington Redskins 2009 NFL Schedule Analysis…

Sunday, Dec. 6 New Orleans Saints
Sunday, Dec. 13 @ Oakland Raiders
Monday, Dec. 21 New York Giants
Sunday, Dec. 27 Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, Jan. 3 @ San Diego Chargers

With a quick look, the Skins have gotten a cake first half of the season (relatively speaking compared to the 2nd half) against the Bucs, Lions, Rams, and Chiefs. Unfortunately for Dan Snyder, his team won’t be happy for long, having to play Atlanta, Dallas, Philly, and San Diego all on the road during the last two months of the 2009 season. The road looks rocky for Washington to sneak into the playoffs this year, especially in the brutal NFC East. This may finally be the year where Jason Campbell proves that he in fact CANNOT lead this team and the Skins finally pull the trigger and let everyone’s favorite sideline stud Colt Brennan take a shot in some games. Why not? The kid only threw for a million yards at Hawaii and was been impressive in each of his preseason appearances in 2008. Clearly, Brennan’s got skill….and the ladies love him…

Toughest Home Game for Washington to Win Outside of the NFC East: New Orleans Saints in Week 13 (Dec. 6th)

Toughest Away Game for Washington to Win Outside of the NFC East: At the Carolina Panthers in Week 5 (Oct. 11th)

The Game Likely to Destroy Washington’s Playoff Push: A letdown against the Oakland Raiders in California Week 14 (Dec. 13th)

The Game Washington will surprise people and win: Sunday, Nov. 8th in Atlanta against Matt Ryan’s Falcons…this has upset special written all over it

Win/Loss Prediction: In 2009, Washington will finish 6-10 and miss the playoffs…sorry Skins fans…but look on the bright side, at least Colt may see some PT

Welcome to the Windy City Mr. Cutler

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 2, 2009 by sportsguru09

Ok folks, the carousel spin has ended. The Denver Broncos have agreed in principle to trade Cutler and a 3rd Round Draft Pick to the……CHICAGO BEARS for Kyle Orton (might as well of cut him), a Third Round Pick in 2009, and two First Round Picks, one in 2009 and one in 2010. Who saw this coming? Not me. Though Chicago was in desperate need of a “real” QB, they have Sexy Rexy Grossman who just throws the ball deep. Come on Chicago, where’s the love for Sexy Rexy?!?…

O, and congrats Dan Snyder, you’re off the hook before you could make yet another bad decision.

Let’s Take A Ride On The Cutler Carousel…

Posted in NFL with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 2, 2009 by sportsguru09

Spinning….spinning….spinning…..dizzy yet?!? Well, I think the people of Denver and the rest of us NFL fans are. Jay Cutler, JUST PICK SOMEBODY! If Cutler comes out and says that he wants to play somewhere, HE’LL GET WHATEVER HE WANTS! cutlerWhy? Because though he’s a crying baby, he still has an absolute rifle for an arm and is 13-1 when his defense gives up 21 points or less. That’s not too much to ask now is it defense? He’ll be a winner (and a pain in the locker room) if he goes to anyone who faintly knows how to defend an opponent.

As of now, everyone on earth is speculating as to what will happen with Cutler and which team will give up some assets to get him. Let’s play out a couple of scenarios…starting with my Jaguars, of course…

If Washington makes a play for Cutler…

Daniel Snyder will do it, don’t test him. Though he should already be starting Colt Brennan, the Skins will finally relieve themselves of Jason Campbell and their first round draft pick for their “new” franchise quarterback. How many times have we heard that? Shuler, Rypien, Frerotte, geez. This would just be great for the media…and Snyder’s reputation.

If Cleveland makes a play for Cutler…

Cleveland, say goodbye to Brady Quinn. Quinn and the Browns’ 1st Round pick will be trade material for Cutler. The NFL’s pretty boy finally gets a starting nod and Derek Anderson officially becomes a backup or gets an outright cut by the Browns. Cleveland, can you exist with Cutler AND Lebron James?

If Detroit makes a play for Cutler…

Matt Stafford, welcome to Denver. In order for the cubs (they’re certainly not good enough to actually be called Lions) to get Cutler, they’ll likely swap him for their #1 draft pick. If so, Stafford flies to Colorado instead of Michigan after Draft day.

Now, there’s word that Denver wants TWO FIRST ROUNDERS for Cutler?!?!?!? Are you kidding me? He’s good, but not that good. But you know what this means…Daniel Snyder will be the only owner stupid enough to give up that much to go get him. washington_redskins-783I’m sorry Redskins fans, but unfortunately your “boss in the booth” has this reputation and just simply isn’t that bright. Be honest…all he is cash and he’s ready and willing to throw it around…whether it makes sense or not. If Snyder has any inklin he can give up his franchise to go get Denver’s QB, he’ll do it without thinking twice…until he realizes in two years that it hasn’t worked out and that he sacrificied the organization to do so. Sound familiar Mr. Snyder?

Where the carousel will stop, nobody knows…for now. But isn’t it fun to speculate on ridiculous scenarios? I think so. Why? Because no one’s ballsiest enough to actually do it in the National Football League

Cutler cried…well, because Cutler’s a bit of a crier…

Anyone else pick up on the Varsity Blues reference, aye?!? And Tweeter drank beer….well, you movie buffs know the rest (PS – Varsity Blues is the best football movie ever). But anyways, to today’s post. Apparently, Jay Cutler thinks he’s worthy of throwing a hissy fit for being a 17-20 quarterback.

Come on Jay, you’re killing me. Sure Josh McDaniels, your new coach, wanted to trade you away so he could stick with his QB prodigy Matt Cassell (now a member of the KC Chefs…I mean Chiefs…but they might as well be Chefs). Sure your team has absolutely zero defense. I’m not even going to mention the hospital full of RBs your team carried and lost last year. But seriously? You’re crying about being in trade talks? With today’s recession and well, Cassell and McDaniels being best friends, you had to expect it. You haven’t proven yourself, and you haven’t shown that you can carry a team on your back when needed. Yes, I would love to have you as a potential franchise QB in Jacksonville, I won’t lie. However, because you’re officially still in Denver, SHUT UP AND PLAY BALL. Don’t talk, don’t complain, just go out, throw TDs, and sling the ball all over the field like you did at Vandy. For goodness sakes, you have Brandon Marshall and the great white hope Brandon Stokely! Suck it up, take a little criticism, and use it as motivation. Don’t be a baby like a typical highly overpaid NFL player because football fanatics and I’m sure Denver’s viewing area are tired of hearing it. Be different, GO OUT, BE AN EXAMPLE, AND LEAD YOUR TEAM TO VICTORIES. If you won’t, can I do it? Anybody playing QB in Mile High will be overshadowed by quite possibly one of the worst defenses of all time anyways. Poor guys…
